Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Gasworks Car Club Run Highlights - December 7, 2025

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Gasworks Car Club Run Highlights - December 7, 2025

Early in the morning of Sunday, December 7, 2025 the Gasworks Car Club gathered at the Junee Ex-Services Club car park (in front of the bowling greens) before departing on a day full of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

Pete’s Hobby Railway, Junee

The first strop was at Pete’s Hobby Railwaya small 2-ft (610mm) gauge railway located on private property on the outskirts of Junee, where we expecting to view a static display of the 1915 Steam Locomotive “Hunslet" & Replica Station Building from the property boundary (due to the provisions of the Rail Safety National Law (NSW). No 82a of 2012). However as there were no trains actually in operation on the grounds, Peter Neve, the property owner, invited us on the station platform to see that and the steam locomotive up close and personal.

Although, because of restrictions, we weren't able to access the full train layouts, we were given a great talk and learnt how Peter's pride and joy was created to become a reality.

So a little later than originally planned, we departed Pete’s Hobby Railway, to head down to Wagga and our first stop there.

Wagga Wagga Heritage Rail Museum Tour, includes Morning Tea

Although we were already behind schedule, we arrived at the Wagga Wagga Heritage Rail Museum, and were still able tour at a leisurely pace, the main rooms located on the platform of the Wagga Wagga Train Station, the Fettler's Shed, and the old Crew Barracks buildings. We also enjoyed a magnificent morning tea here.

Willans Hill Miniature Railway to ride on miniature train

We then travelled over the Wagga Wagga Botanical Gardens and visited the Willans Hill Miniature Railway, where we had arranged for a special train trip around the grounds, departing the main station and travelling around the entire track, including travelling the "main line” over the Hawkesbury Bridge, up the spiral to the Museum Station, and through a couple of tunnels.

Ladysmith Tourist Railway, includes BBQ Lunch and Trike Rides

Our next stop was at Ladysmith Tourist Railway, on the southern side of Wagga Wagga. Here we had a relaxing BBQ lunch, while riding on the railway trikes.

RAAF Base Wagga Heritage Centre

Our final destination was the RAAF Base Wagga Heritage Centre, where we explored the history of the Royal Australian Air Force in Wagga Wagga and the Riverina.

Overall, it was a most entertaining and informative day, thoroughly enjoyed by pre-teens, teenagers, and older members!

ps: keep an eye on the Gasworks Events Calendar page, as we’ll be posting details about all the Gasworks Car Club runs for 2026 shortly.

And don’t forget at all our Vintage Speedway, Speedway Kart, and Khanacross events are all designated as Club Runs.
