Car Club Run to Eden (July 2026)

Friday morning was wet and miserable.  Huge thanks to Jen Shaw for moving the morning breakfast BBQ to another park with shelter.

I was continually checking the road conditions for the Snowy Mountains Highway incase  we had to detour.

As we headed off we arrived at Tumut where we regrouped then onto Cooma for a snack and a break.

We then stopped at the Nimmitabel Bakery for lunch and coffee before setting off to Bombala.

From Bombala we then headed to Eden. We arrived about an hour later.

It was still raining but the boys and I still had a look around when we all heard a Whale screech from the darkness.

Saturday Morning after breakfast it was a nice sunny day and we all headed off in one vehicle to Greencape Lighthouse.

As we started the tour we got to the top of the Lighthouse and we saw whales in the distance. The tour guide didn't want to leave either we saw a total of 16 whales some were even synchronised with their swimming and diving.

We then ventured onto the Whaling Station where we learnt about old Tom. He would splat his tail to tell seaman that orcas were nearby so they would venture and collect them.

They hunted around 25 whales a year but they were starting to become extinct. Fortunately, they found an alternative product to replace whale oil and the killing of whales was no longer necessary.

Ben Boyd tower was built as a lookout for whales. But because of his bad nature Ben Boyd National Park had a name change to Beowa National Park which in aboriginal language honours whales or Orcas.

Brodie and Steven cooked a superb BBQ and brought it back to our rooms as the rain  closed in again.

After breakfast on Sunday morning, I was so glad everyone had a great time and the weather was perfect.

We came back our separate ways but the memories we had of the Eden trip will last a lifetime.
