Easter Speedway Karts Event at Illabo Motorsport Park also saw the introduction of Lawn Mowers (March 5, 2026)

Firstly, a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the organisation and running of the event, your time and dedication to the club and our events is greatly appreciated & we are extremely lucky to have such a great group of volunteers on board.

While our numbers in general were down (partly due to other family commitments, work commitments and current circumstances with cost of living and increased petrol prices) the event remained well supported.  We did have a number of new drivers join up and attend over the Easter weekend.

After much research and enquiry, we were pleased to be able to introduce a new category for mowers.  We note that mowers are very restricted in their ability to participate at events in NSW.  Unfortunately, short notice and our event timing did not suit some, and like our usual drivers other family/work commitments and current fuel issues did prevent more participants. Thankyou to Robert for making the journey - we understand that he had a great time and will be looking to come back - with more mowers and drivers in future events.  We will not necessarily be able to run mowers at all demonstration events, but will look further into working with the mower groups in the future.

The event ran smoothly, and it was pleasing to see a good number of spectators in the spectator area. Due to the low entry  numbers, and previous spectator numbers, we had instructed Fujimi to cater for a smaller group, however due to the higher than expected number of spectators, Fujimi did run out of meals prior to the day being over… but snacks along with hot and cold drinks were available through the rest of afternoon.

Special thanks to Lee Rowe for her tremendous efforts in arranging the easter raffle prizes, also to Lee and Donna for their efforts with extra easter spirit and arranging the egg and spoon race with the kids (small and a few bigger ones) - it is always fantastic when we have extra ways in which to get the spectators actively involved, and helps to bring them back.

We did have one of our member drivers make a further donation of $100 to help make the event run on the day - special thanks for this donation. We do work hard to keep the gates open, however of course are unable to maintain events which do not break even. Sadly, as I noted on the day, I am seeing a huge number of speedway events being cancelled across the state, and for Gasworks to keep the gates open for our drivers throughout this difficult time it is going to mean we need to pull out all the stops.

Looking forward to seeing you all at next years Easter Event (which is in late March for 2027 — so mark it in your calendar now) and don’t forget our next Vintage Speedway and Karts event will be Saturday, May 16, 2026.
