Saturday October 19th saw the final Vintage Speedway and Kart event for the 2024 Season at Illabo Motorsport Park.
In the week leading up to the event, we followed the weather forecasts with baited breath… they promised us NO RAIN for Saturday… although heavy rains were forecast for Thursday and Friday… and we prayed this would hold true… and fortunately the weather deities favoured us and this is exactly what happened… Junee Shire averaged 20mm of rain over the two days… and despite it been heavily overcast for most of the day, not a drop fell at Illabo on Saturday :)
Yes, the track was wet on Saturday morning, and a few puddles in the pits area and a giant puddle at the bottom of the track near the spectator area… but the track was in great condition and the day proceeded according to plan and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and as you’ll see from some of the photos they had a bit of fun with the puddle :)
[PS: thanks to a $9,138 grant from the Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club, we have all the equipment and fixtures ready to install the new drain at the bottom of the track and this work will be undertaken by our volunteers during the summer recess… and the drainage work that undertaken a few months ago in the Spectator Area thanks to the $125,000 NSW Government’s ClubGrants Category 3 Infrastructure Grants (Feb 2021 round) that area wasn’t 6-inches under water anymore.]
We did have to water the track lightly after lunch… and we even had some sunshine sneak through a couple of times (hence why some of the photos from the afternoon are “slightly over exposed”)… also keep an eye out in the photo gallery for a little spectator who visited the track
We had the most number of Karts participating ever, especially in the novice category… there were about a dozen registered kart drivers and two of them were first timers at Illabo Motorsport Park.
We look forward to seeing you all back in 2025… our event calendar already has the dates listed, so put them in your diaries and book your accommodation for those weekends NOW :)
