Khanacross

Gasworks Motorsport Club is now running Khanacross events at Illabo Motorsport Park, under Permits and Insurance provided by AASA.

What is Khanacross?

Khanacross at Illabo Motorsport Park

A Khanacross is an entry level competition for the whole family. Drivers can compete from as young as 12 years old, however they must have a suitably experienced adult in the passenger seat.

Only the Driver, and an approved passenger supplying Instruction to a Novice or Junior driver if applicable, may be in the vehicle whilst competing.

The events are usually run on unsealed surface and the Course(s) are designed to improve car control, judgement, and hazard perception in a safe environment.

The Course layout is marked by tyres and/or arrows; time penalties apply if any of these are struck — these penalties aid in improving driving styles and attitude.

What vehicles can be used in Khanacross?

Virtually any four-wheeled vehicle can be used for Khanacross events, including:

  1. cars

  2. utes

  3. off-road karts

  4. side by side ATV

If in doubt, ask us before you buy or enter an event!

Mandatory Vehicle & Driver Requirements

There are a couple of mandatory vehicle and driver requirements, including:

  1. Drivers can compete from as young as 12 years old, however they must have a suitably experienced adult in the passenger seat. In addition, juniors aged under 18, must have Parent or Guardian written consent to compete.

  2. The vehicle must mechanically sound with effective seat belts, steering and brakes, along with roadworthy street tyres.

  3. Road registration is NOT required! but obviously you’ll need to transport the vehicle on a suitable trailer to and from Illabo Motorsport Park.

  4. A 1kg fire extinguisher must be securely mounted within reach of the driver (The link is an example — others may also be suitable)

  5. Ideally, a laminated front windscreen should be fitted to the vehicle OR a helmet, fitted with a full visor, is required for vehicles without a windscreen.

  6. All competitors must wear ankle to wrist clothing of a non synthetic material and fully enclosed footwear, also a helmet (non-motorcross style) to at least Australian standards must be worn whilst on the track.

  7. All competitors must hold an appropriate Motorsport licence and a recognised Car Club membership. If you’re not a member of another recognised car club, you can join Gasworks Motorsport.

How do I participate in a Khanacross event at Illabo Motorsport Park?

Participation in Khanacross events at Illabo Motorsport Park are by invite only!

Invites will be sent to various recognised car clubs within the Riverina, and beyond, a month or so before a scheduled Khanacross event.

If you’re not already a member of another recognised car club that is receiving invites to our events at Illabo Motorsport Park, you can join Gasworks Motorsport — and indicate on the form that you’re interested in Khanacross.

For more information about membership or Khanacross, you can use our Contact Form and list “Khanacross” as part of the subject.

When are Khanacross events held at Illabo Motorsport?

Gasworks Khanacross will hold dedicated Khanacross events on seperate dates to the regular Gasworks Vintage Speedway and Kart events — We plan on at least 4 events a year (between March 1st and October 31st)

That said, we may occasionally have a couple of cars on hand for demonstration purposes at the Vintage Speedway events — eg we might have them run the Khanacross course to provide a continued viewing experience for spectators whilst we are watering the main track.

Check out the Gasworks Motorsport Event Calendar for the latest dates — The Khanacross events are highlighted in GREEN.
