On Friday, February 22, 2019, Steph Cooke, the Member for Cootamundra, visited Illabo Motorsport Park to inspect the exisiting facilities and to hear about the various upgrades and improvement works that Gasworks Motorsport Inc, as the administration entity for Illabo Motorsport Park, are proposing to undertake — pending successful funding through grants or sponsorship opportunities.

The current proposed improvements include;

  • Erection of a permanent Spectator Shelter
  • Installation of a Disabled Toilet
  • Connection of 240 volt power mains power to the site
  • Improved water connections
  • Provision of an RV dump point

The current cost to have such a facility built by private contractors, with current valuation of the facility today, is estimated at $240,000. With the actual cost to our club, to date, has been $10,500.

In 2014, at the date of incorporation, the club had a bank balance of $2,000; being a donations by two of its’ members to kick start the Association.

Further donations of $2,800, along with the proceeds from the fifteen motorsports events held at the Park so far totalling $54,000, have financed the balance. Various safety materials, such as concrete safety barriers, Coates plastic safety barriers, paint, vehicles, machinery, etc, to the value of $98,000 have also been donated by generous sponsors and supporters.

Work-in-Kind to date (2014–2019) by our Club Committee and members volunteering has been in excess of 2,800 man-hours. Plus regular work party attendance for grounds maintenance and event preparation from Junee Correction Centre/GEO and Corrective Services NSW Wagga have accumulated 3,000+ man-hours over a similar period.

The events held at Illabo Motorsport Park, over the last three years, have provided a Visitation & Tourism Dollar worth to Illabo and the wider Junee Shire of $240,000 — That’s almost a ¼-million dollars spent by visitors on things such as re-occurring overnight stays, meals and supplies purchased from local businesses, and visitation to other tourism attractions in the shire.

At the conclusion of the meeting Ms Cooke congratulated the Gasworks Motorsport team on the foresight and progress in the Illabo Motorsport Park’s development. Gasworks Motorsports gladly accepted her offer of full support in our grant application process.
