Report on April 2019’s Car Run to Jugiong

by Jeff Windsor

Meeting at 9:00am on April 17, 2019, at the Gasworks Garage and though small in numbers our intrepid group set off at 9:30am for Cootamundra in perfect weather conditions for a car run. On arrival in Coota we inspected the Captains Walk, a collection of busts of famous Australian cricketers and were met by a group of members from the Cootamundra Antique Motor Club. They arrived in an assortment of classic vehicles including an early VW, Mark V Jaguar, Pontiac GTO, HZ Holden Wagon (apologies for any I have missed.)

President of Cootamundra Antique Motor Club, Malcom, invited us back to his very well organised garage for morning tea where we enjoyed a good old chat to like minded car enthusiasts and looked over his collection which included a rare Austin 1800 ute amongst his Jags. The Coota Hoota is their clubs newsletter and is available online.

Leaving our new friends in Coota, we travelled to Jugiong winding through the scenic hills after turning off the Coolac Road onto the link road to the Harden-Jugiong Road.

We arrived at our lunch destination, the very pleasant surroundings of the Sir George Hotel Jugiong, on schedule and sat down to the usual fare of tasty meals, coffee and cakes with a glass of wine or beer available, if desired.

We travelled home via the Hume Highway to Gundagai arriving back at the Gasworks Garage at 3:00pm.
All in all a great day out and we look forward to having more vehicles ready to roll for our next outing and perhaps joining the Coota club for a run.
